Giveaway! Swiss Chocolate Fabric & Quilt Patterns by Amanda Murphy

Swiss Chocolate quilting fabric quilt patterns Amanda Murphy

Yesterday I showed you Amanda Murphy's upcoming quilting fabric collection, Veranda. Today I'm giving away a fat quarter bundle of her current fabric collection, Swiss Chocolate.

Aren't those blues and browns lovely? With a pop of peach, which I've really been digging lately! But, that's not all! I'm also giving away a set of all six of her new quilt patterns! In addition to being pretty and vibrant, some of the patterns are designed to be used with certain cuts of fabric and are so labeled, such as fat-quarter-friendly and 2-1/2"-strip friendly. She goes through each pattern in detail on her blog.

So, there will be two winners! One for the fabric and one for the patterns. To enter, simply leave a comment on this post and you will be in the drawing for either prize. If you'd prefer to be in the drawing for only one of the two prizes, you can say so in your comment.

Comments close Sunday night, July 10. Winner will be chosen randomly and announced on Monday. Good luck!

The Mission Maxi Pattern Review

The Mission Maxi is a new sewing pattern from Jamie Christina. It is made with jersey, which makes it perfect for summer. There are three views Halter Back, Basic Tank Back and Godet Back (see details here). I made the Basic Tank Back.

I cannot emphasize enough how easily this dress came together. The directions are easy to understand and follow. The most difficult part of sewing this maxi was laying out the fabric as you need a lot of space for all that fabric and jersey doesn't always want to lay flat and straight. I love, love the innovative way the binding is done, no stretch-and-pin. (For you pin haters, like me, you really don't need to use a single pin on this dress).

I would categorize this as a beginners pattern with the caveat that working with jersey can be a bit tricky. It is a little slippery so keep in mind the extra time needed to fuss with it. Though knit fabrics in general are very forgiving, so little mistakes are not very noticeable. (PS - do you know how hard it is to take a full body picture on self-portrait mode?!?)

Details:

Sewing Pattern: Sizes 2-18, fabric recommendation is jersey, include 3 views - see details here

Fabric: Jersey (polyester very slinky and light) - scant 2 yards, enough to make up to size 10 (37.5" bust)

Thread: Guterman All-Purpose polyester to match fabric and Gutermann Bulky Nylon (to match fabric) for your bobbin thread (great for sewing knits)

[Supplies list for full disclosure: Patterns from Jamie Christina in exchange for pattern testing, fabric & thread purchased by me from JoAnn Fabrics]

Today's giveaway is for one of two prizes.

Prize 1 = The Mission Maxi Sewing Pattern + Fabric + Matching Thread

Prize 2 - The Mission Maxi Sewing Pattern

To enter, please leave a comment on this post. Please let me know if you'd like Prize 1 (with fabric) or Prize 2 if you should win.

**To clarify, everyone will be in the draw for Prize 2, but only those interested in the fabric too will be in the draw for Prize 1. Thank you.

Olive Swing Bag Pattern Review & Giveaway

The Olive Swing Bag is a Make New or Make Do PDF Sewing Pattern by Betz White. This bag can be made using fabric or by repurposing two vintage pillowcases. As you may know, Betz White is a champion of eco-friendly sewing and crafting. In the spirit of being green, I choose to use vintage fabric and an old tablecloth.

This pattern came in PDF form which worked just fine as there aren't a lot of pieces to tape together. The bag comes together easily in a common sense sort of way. I love it when patterns are easy to figure out and I'm not wondering why I'm doing something a certain way. There is a nice glossary and clear diagrams.

Betz White is offering one of her PDF sewing patterns to one lucky reader of this blog! All you need to do to enter is leave a comment on this post as to which PDF pattern in her shop is your favorite! Comments close Friday, May 20. Good luck!
